Anne Hecker, Matrix Foundation Board Member, 1924-2009

Anne Hecker, tireless and passionate advocate for the Association for Women in Communications, its mission and the goals of its educational affiliate, the AWC Matrix Foundation — passed away on April 4, 2009, at age 84.  Anne has served  on the board of the AWC Matrix Foundation, AWC’s educational affiliate since 2000 where she served as vice chair and as secretary/treasurer. Anne was mentored by Georgina MacDougall Davis, one of the founders of AWC (known early on as Theta Sigma Phi). Her most recent endeavor has been co-developing the AWC Matrix Foundation’s Certification Program for Professional Communicators.

Anne joined Theta Sigma Phi (TSP) as a student at the University of Oregon and held numerous positions within TSP, WICI and AWC over the years, including national president of WICI in 1977-78; chair of the 75th Anniversary Meeting in 1984; and as a founding board member of the AWC Matrix Foundation from 1997 onward. Anne was the very first person profiled in January on AWC’s Powerful Voices centennial celebration.
