About Us
The AWC Matrix Foundation, a 501(c)3 tax exempt foundation under the IRS code, was established in 1998 as the educational affiliate of The Association for Women in Communication. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible.
Mission
The Foundation’s mission is to promote the advancement of women in the communications profession by providing funds for education, research and publications. The Foundation works in cooperation with The Association for Women in Communications to carry out its educational and charitable goals.
Initiatives
Currently, the Foundation Board is working on the following projects in conjunction with our mission:
- Professional Communications Certification Program (CCP) recognizes excellence in all areas of communications; provides an opportunity to demonstrate communication and management skills; and enhances employment/client potential.
- Edith Wortman First Amendment Award honors professional communicators for their efforts relating to First Amendment issues.
- Helen Duhamel Achievement Award honors media professionals, with special emphasis on broadcast journalists, who have made significant achievements in their profession while overcoming extreme hardships and/or challenges, and who have used their First Amendment rights to give back to society rather than simply report on events.
- Barbara Erickson Memorial Scholarship Fund gives college students an opportunity to meet and mingle with professional communicators by funding attendance at the annual AWC National Professional Conference.
- Chapter Scholarship Program provides non-profit fund management for AWC chapters offering financial assistance to college communication students.
- Writer/author survey identifies and profiles members of AWC whose works have been published in books, newsletters, newspapers, the internet, corporate literature, magazines, journals and through other venues.
- Sessions/workshops delivered via the AWC Annual Professional Conference to support, enhance and promote writers/authors.
